Become a Delegate
At the KCYS, recruited Korean and Central Asian delegates represent their own country in each committee. As a delegate, you are expected to research and study key issues on the committee’s agenda and to prepare the Keynote Speech including your country’s position and possible solutions.
To help finalise the Keynote Speech, you are given time to share and discuss ideas with other delegates from your country through the country meeting. Each delegation presents the Keynote Speech during the first or second committee meeting. Based upon this, you join heated discussions and negotiations with other delegations in order to reach agreement and produce the Joint Statement at the end. The Joint Statement is adopted at the Model Summit. Being a KCYS delegate would be a great opportunity for you to develop in-depth knowledge of global issues as well as debating and negotiating skills while working together with other participants from diverse backgrounds. |
Become a Chairperson
The key role of chairs is to lead and manage meetings at the KCYS. In addition to this, you are demanded to write the Chair Report on your committee’s agenda distributed to encourage delegates’ study and research before coming to the KCYS. Enacting and educating the Rules of Procedures (R.O.P) for committee meetings and the Model Summit is also your responsibility. On the first day, chairs conduct R.O.P simulation in front of all participants in order to improve their understanding.
While meetings are underway, chairs perform as moderators, controlling the flow of discussion and dealing with unexpected situations. In particular, you are expected to help and lead delegations in your committee to reach agreement on the agenda by the final committee meeting. Based upon this outcome, chairs finalise and present the Joint Statement at the end. Taking part in the KCYS as a chair would be a challenging but valuable experience. Reconciling delegates with different views and interests is so hard that your committee may face a series of deadlock. However, you will be able to learn and improve leadership skills with your co-chairs after struggling to produce the Joint Statement. |
Become a Liaison
Liaisons serve diverse roles from preparing sessions to supporting participants during the KCYS. Ensuring smooth organisation of the event is your responsibility.
First of all, each liaison is in charge of one delegation and helps its members to participate in all sessions without difficulties. For this, you are asked to deliver important announcements and notices before and during the event. Moreover, as a liaison, you plan and manage cultural exchange activities of the KCYS such as ice-breaking, city tour and cross-cultural debate. Providing administrative support for meetings is also one of important tasks. With other colleagues, you prepare meeting rooms and materials, and assist in chairs and delegates while meetings are underway. Serving as a liaison at the KCYS will give you good chances of establishing networks with students from different countries and developing interpersonal skills for multicultural environment. In addition, as part of the Secretariat, you can learn how to plan, organise and manage international meetings and events. |
Become the Press(Media)
The press are responsible for news, visual material production and media management to promote the meetings and activities of the KCYS. It is fairly a unique role not offered by other positions. Thus, you are able to work quite independently although the press also belong to the Secretariat.
We run KCYS homepage and facebook group as platforms to attract participants and deliver critical information. As the press, managing such online media is your responsibility. Before and during the KCYS, you are required to make and distribute press releases which will be used to write news articles by Korea’s major newspapers. Photos and videos of the KCYS are also created by the press. Throughout the event, capturing precious and pleasant moments for producing visual materials will be your top priority. The benefit of becoming the KCYS press is obvious that you can practice and improve your writing, editing and filming skills while working in the multicultural environment. |
